Guess who . . . . .

Just wanted to share these fab pictures of Cameron Diaz for V magazine. For someone soooo squeaky clean I think she has managed to deliver real attitude. Love it.

Has Beyonce made a pact with the devil?

Rich. Famous. Talented. Successful. Married. Stunning. Here are just a few words I would use to describe my girl B.

The only thing that I would say the girl didn't have going for her was her taste in clothes. She used to be so inconsistent. Looking her worst at red carpet events (see examples below).

So what happened?

I have come to the conclusion that she has made a pact with the devil, otherwise known as Christophe Decarnin, the Creative Director at Balmain. This explains how she manages to get those perfectly manicured mitts on the hottest pieces the label has on offer.

So I wonder what she offered in exchange? It has to be something of equal importance to the fashion world. I've got it. . . . she has promised to never let her mum Tina Knowles create anymore 1980's inspired prom dresses. Hallelujah!

What would you be willing to sacrifice for Balmain?

To thigh high or not to thigh high?

So it is that time of year when I am starting to decide which looks I want to channel in the up and coming winter months. This forces me not only to buy items in the sales that I will be able to wear next season but also means I can start hunting down vintage versions now at a fraction of the price.

However, I am facing a bit of a dilemma. Do I dare to invest in some thigh high boots as they are undoubtedly the biggest footwear trend for A/W or will I in fact never wear them for fear of being mistaken for a hooker?

Bearing in mind Pretty Woman was and indeed still is one of my favourite films do I 'work it baby own it' or is it just one slutty step too far in the quest to be at the forefront of fashion?

Quelle décision!

Resort and pre-fall collections are the best!

After browsing the Resort 2010 collections and looking back at my previous blogs on Pre-fall collections I have come to the conclusion that I often prefer these collections to the actual Spring/Summer and Autumn/Winter stuff.

For me these collections are so wearable. They are simple. Less about making a huge statement during the competition of fashion week and more about creating clothes that people will actually wear.

Stella McCartney's Resort collection is a perfect example. I want everything. And as usual I especially want her jumper dresses and jumpsuits which are clearly her forte.

Which outfit do you prefer?

Ouch!

Do you ever look at an outfit or a piece of clothing and it is almost too painful to look at?

It doesn't happen often but when it does it is a joyful experience that is worth the pain!

Just a moment ago whilst sat on my laptop I cried out 'ouch' which startled my husband into asking "what's wrong?". As you can imagine he didn't quite get my 'pain' at seeing this Philip Lim Resort 2010 collection, however, I know you guys will get it.

So prepare yourself before scrolling down. . .

OUCH!

Worth blogging about!

I know I have not blogged in a while but I just had to share the most amazing shoes with you all. The colour, style, studs and what looks like paper thin leather are just beautiful.

Doctors! Grrrrrr

Today I am going to write about something totally non-fashion related. I know, I know, you must be thinking but what else is there to write about! Well to be quite honest with you I am soooo disappointed with the turn out for the Oscars that this is my way of protesting. I think it is about time some of those celebs sacked their stylists and got looking on these blogs for inspiration.

Anyway, time for my next moan.

Does anyone else find that when you go to the doctors as soon as you sit at that strategically placed chair that you feel like a liar? I have a mini battle with myself as to whether to tell the whole truth and risk sounding like I am exagerating or playing it down so they they then feel I'm being honest. And before the doctor has even checked to see if your limb is holding on by a thread ( not that that's what I went for) but they are already looking at you like some paranoid hypochondriac.

I think it is time they realised that 99% of us are genuine. And that we have better things to do than sit for hours in a surgery waiting room flicking through out of date magazines after having woken up early on our day off to get an emergency appointment!

To clarify my point as I left the doctors today after my illness was dismissed I said "I just hope it gets better" to which the doctor responded "I'm SURE it will". How is she 'sure' it will? So now the really 'SICK' thing is is that I am almost willing it to get worst so I can prove her wrong.

If you ever need a dress for the Oscars

I have to hand it to them. Marchesa do know how to make modern style prom dresses suitable for any red carpet event.

I guarantee that at least one celeb will wear one of their Autumn/Winter 2009 creations to the Oscars.

So here's what I would recommend if I were a stylist.

I would love, love, love to Chloe Sevigny or Maggie Gyllenhaal turn up in this fabulous jumpsuit.

Keira Knightly or Marisa Tomei in . . . .

Emma Watson in this dress but loose the bow and go for a thin belt or long necklace.

And I'd like to see Gwyneth Paltrow showing of her lovely legs in this little number . . . .

What a website!

Whilst laying in bed with a cold feeling sorry for myself I have only gone and discovered an amazing website!

Polyvore - http://www.polyvore.com/. It is a website that lets you design your own mood boards, a modern day fashion wheel!

You can style celebrities . . . .

Like Chloe Sevigny (not that she needs any advice. But you can always offer a helping hand to the likes of Katie Holmes or Britney Spears).

OTT

I don't see the big deal with Victoria Beckham. I don't understand how she has become such a fashion icon. Fair enough she never looks horrendous but at the same time do you really look at her and think 'wow'? I don't. More like 'oh there's Posh in another nice, expensive designer outfit'. Couldn't we all do the same if we had her money, figure and lifestyle?

Ok, I will give her some credit as many celebrities still manage to get it horribly wrong but I will not excuse her recent outfit at New York fashion week.

I'm a firm believer in choosing one or two statement pieces in your outfit and keeping the rest simple. It's all about balance.

So headband, sunglasses, fur, cropped gloves, shear top, wet look leggings, pearl bracelet and a gold watch is a definate 'OTT' look in my book! She almost looks like she got carried away in her mum's dressing up box. The more I look at it the more it makes me laugh and somehow I don't think that was the response she was after.

It's not fair!

Celebs have all the luck!

Only the other day was I looking at the pre-fall 2009 catwalk pics and falling madly in love with Proenza Schouler. I was going to share this with you straight away but stopped myself after thinking that most people are still looking forward to wearing spring/summer inspired pieces.

However, after seeing Gwyneth Paltrow at the Landmark Sunshine Cinema in New York the other night actually wearing some of the pieces from the collection I thought it only fair to share some of the other looks with you. She must have literally taken the clothes off the models back as she came off the catwalk! I mean we are only in February and she has already managed to bag some hot clobber for the winter. I wonder what she will be picking from the autumn/winter shows. I guess we'll find out in a couple of weeks.

Happy Valentine's Day

For all you ladies that didn't receive any flowers on valentine's day here are some pics from my favourite florist - Sarah at Saipua.

This is how flowers should look!

Ok I am slightly biased as she did my wedding flowers last year in NY but I am sure you will agree she is extremely talented!

Thursday 12 February 2009

Yawn, yawn, yawn.

After seeing the recent dresses chosen by celebs (or their stylists) to wear to the recent annual award ceremonies I started to think what would I wear to what is essentially the highlight of their year.

This year I have been rather disappointed. Everyone is playing it far too safe and I have pretty much forgotten what eveyrone has worn already. It's a bit like going for your haircut. You want a change but nothing drastic. The worst thing is to come out and nobody even notices you've had it cut!

So after careful analysis here are my options. There are a few, but then there's the Emmys, Baftas and the Oscars so I need to keep my options open!

Giorgio Armani

Monique Lhuillier

Oscar de la Renta

Andrew GN

Balmain

Now that's more like it! Don't you agree?
